First Street Leather is located in the quaint Danish village of Solvang, located in the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. Solvang was founded in the early 1900s by a group of Danes who wanted to start a community where they could foster and preserve their Danish heritage. First Street Leather has been in business in Solvang since 1972. Philip Grant started First Street Leather as a venue to offer the highest quality hand-made leather belts, handbags and wallets to his customers. In fact, he even manufactured the belts, wallets and purses that he sold at a workshop in nearby Santa Ynez. Shortly after opening, he realized that leather jackets were a great way to wear leather and decided to enter the leather garment business. To this day we remain true to our high standards selling only the highest quality hand-made leather jackets, fur coats, handbags, belts, wallets, hats and accessories. Our emphasis is on leather that is ecologically tanned with safe vegetable dyes and made in the USA, Canada, Europe, South America and Oceania and our product selection reflects this.

On July 4th 2003, we opened a second location in The Village at Mammoth. We had the pleasure of designing every detail of this store to best showcase our beautiful collections of leather jackets, shearling coats and accessories. The custom fixtures and cabinets were all personally handcrafted by Bud Tullis of Solvang. Salvatore Cisaria, another local Santa Ynez Valley artisan, crafted the beautiful copper counter and table tops which are highlights of the store. Located on Minaret Road in The Village at Mammoth, First Street Leather Mammoth is one of the first shops to open in the Village. Shortly after opening this store, we expanded into a sister shop called TROPPEBORSE right next to First Street Leather. Our new accessory store offers many new handbag lines such as Hobo International, Junior Drake and Tasha Polizzi. We now have all of the new handbag styles of HOBO International as well as Francesco Biasia and don’t forget Brighton.

In January 2006, First Street Leather opened our newest store in Squaw Valley USA. A beautiful turn of the century California store, it is located just at the base of the ski lifts in Squaw Valley and features the same fine leather jackets, fur coats, boots and, of course, the great customer service that we have always been known for.
